Ratcatcher 1999

Glasgow, summer, 1973. Dustmen are striking; bags of garbage add to the blight of council flats and a fetid canal. Ryan, who's about 12, drowns during a play fight with his neighbor, the jug-eared James. James runs home, a flat where he lives with his often-drunk dad, his mother, and sisters, who live in hope of moving to newly-built council flats.

The slice-of-life, coming-of-age story follows James as he tags along with the older lads; has a friendship with his quirky wee rodent-loving neighbor, Kenny; spends time with Margaret Anne, myopic, slightly older, the local sexual punching bag; and, has a moment or two of joy. The strike may end, but is there any way out for James?

In Tales of Ordinary Madness, Ben Gazzara plays Charles Serking an alcoholic aspiring writer who meets a beautiful prostitute named Cass played by Ornella Muti. He is back in the world of women, and quickly takes her back to his place to meet his ex-wife, current landlord, Vicky.

He realizes his inability to find happiness taming, Cass, the self mutilating, most beautiful woman in town, he therefore continues his relationship enabling her to continue turning tricks, he ends up traveling towards rock bottom, in a pit of alcoholism and depression.

"Ever heard one mouth screaming? I have. My own."

He picks up on two other women one,drama queen Vera, played by GREAT Susan Tyrrell, and another strange scene in the same housing complex with a widow played by Judith Drake.

Charles does end up giving it a try with Cass though asking her to marry him, but fate leads him away from her once again.

When he finally returns, he finds out she made good on an old promise.

Walkabout 1971

Walkabout is a 1971 British film set in Australia. Loosely based on the novel by James Vance Marshall, it was written by Edward Bond and directed by Nicolas Roeg, and earned Roeg a nomination for the Palme d'Or award.[1]

Two young children are stranded in the Australian outback and are forced to cope on their own. They meet an Aborigine on "walkabout": a ritualistic banishment from his tribe.

Kukacka v temném lese 1986

Routine Czechoslovak wartime melodrama

Set in World War 2 as the Germans occupy Czechoslovakia, teenage Emilka's (Miroslava Součková) father is murdered by the Nazis, but she is selected for special treatment by virtue of being blonde. She is billeted with the kommandant of a concentration camp near the Baltic coast, where his kindness towards her provokes his wife's jealousy, but is compromised when Emilka witnesses his brutality towards the prisoners.

As the war ends, he abandons his wounded wife and escapes with Emilka ... but ultimately justice prevails. With its happy ending, this is little more than a simple tale of beautiful Czech girl vs. brutal Nazi, and while this may appeal to Czech patriotic sensibilities, it is otherwise unremarkable apart from 18-year-old Miroslava Součková's fine acting and beautifully expressive face.

A couple of English tourists rent a boat to visit the fictitious island of Almanzora, just off the southern Spanish coast. When they arrive, they find the town deserted of adults, there's only children who don't speak but stare at them with eerie smiles.

They soon discover that all the children of the island have been posessed by a mysterious force or madness which they can pass from one to another, and which makes them attack and murder their elders, who can't defend themselves because nobody dares to kill a child.

Beau Pere 1981

"Beau-Père" is not a skin flick, though the cover of the DVD and VHS would make you think otherwise. Yes, it's about a very taboo topic, to say the least - the sexual relationship between a 40-ish piano player and his 14-year-old stepdaughter - but the great Bertrand Blier, who explored similar territory in "Get Out Your Handkerchiefs" eases the unease by doing the unthinkable and turning the movie into a screwball comedy.

Well, that's what we think, at first. Remi (played magnificently by Blier favorite Patrick Dewaere), not unlike Humbert in Nabokov's "Lolita" tells us of his tragic plight; after his wife dies tragically, he is left with his stepdaughter, Marion (Ariel Besse). Uncomfortable with the new rift in the household, Marion childishly assumes the "mother" role and takes on all motherly duties - including seducing her stepfather. Remi refuses, but there is danger lurking in Marion's pubescent body and puppy-dog eyes. Not realizing this danger, he eventually gives in.

Of course, giving into his stepdaughter is a mistake that plunges both Remi and Marion deeper and deeper into misery. Even Marion's real father suspects a mutual sexuality between them and, in one of the film's more heartbreaking moments, completely dissolves his obligation as a father and OKs the incestuous affair. Remi and Marion, then, are not so much connected by their sexual bond, but by the fact that they've both been abandoned by the people they love. There's no real question about where the affair is going, but the tragedy lies in who gets hurt the most. The final image of the movie may haunt me forever.

The movie is obviously not for all tastes, but it should be said that the sex is never gratuitous. In fact, it seems almost distracting when compared to what Blier really wants to get across - the divide between adolescence and adulthood and how seemingly frivolous sexual encounters can ruin lives forever. And, like "Hankerchiefs", the movie somehow provides some truly funny moments. "Beau-Père" is Bertrand Blier's masterpiece and a film that should be seen by all connaisseurs of intelligent, challenging cinema.
